Happiness In Chaos

Let’s take a moment and be frank, homeschool for most – not fun, have you seen the memes? We laugh because most of them are hilariously close to the truth. Working from home with kids, or the cat that won’t quit sitting on your computer keyboard? Some people are gaining weight, some are losing weight, but at some point in time it’s easy to speculate that most of us have had moments where we have felt like we are gaining stress and losing our minds. The news, the newsfeeds, the masks, the politics, Covid-19 –  is there any end in sight? Is there any happy to be found? Yes! Yes, there is! We just have to tap into an attitude of gratitude and count our blessings. In this unprecedented time we have the opportunity to set time aside and enjoy the little things. It’s the perfect time to throw expectations of ‘the old way’ out the window and learn to go with the flow a little more. I woke up this morning with the intent to write this article at 7am, it is now 7pm and I’m not at all sorry that I spent the day with building blocks, monster trucks, bubbles, and books with my 2 year old grandson. Granted, many of you have pressing matters that can’t wait all day; but when you can – take a break! If you are feeling stressed step back and re-evaluate your mindset, take a few deep breaths and remind yourself to choose happy.  Everyday find time to do something just for you that makes you happy. A long soak, yoga or a hard core workout, work on writing that novel that’s been in your head for years, play guitar or learn an instrument, stream your favorite guilty pleasure show like “America’s Got Talent” or “Survivor”, do some gardening, or just sit with a hot cup of coffee and do nothing. And if you are lucky enough to be stuck in paradise, like we are here on Maui where COVID-19 is currently somewhat under control, don’t forget to get out and support your local businesses and have fun!  Many restaurants and activities on Maui offer generous Kama Aina discounts in these challenging times.  Go out fishing, parasailing, or let a private boat charter whisk you away!  Enjoy this special time!  As everyrthing else, it won’t stay here forever…
